Buying Computers for Your Small Business
by Ted Frapensa
Posted on May 18, 2006

Not every small business owner knows it, but buying a computer doesn~t have to be an expensive task. This is especially true right now, when small businesses are making great gains in the marketplace. Many service and product providers want to build a relationship with small business owners and do so by offering low pricing on their products. However, not all of these prices are as low as they could be; the small business owner has to be smart and savvy and seek out the lowest possible price.

When I first opened my business, I realized that I was going to need more computers to run it efficiently. Thus, I began my search for good deals on computers. After visiting some local stores, I realized that they were not giving me prices that were feasible for my situation. Finally, I went online to find computers for company. Specifically, I visited manufacturer sites as well as sites that sold refurbished computers or sold them as a middle man. A little research showed me that the manufacturers sites or the refurbished sites run by manufacturers were going to give me the best prices. So, I signed up for the update emails from all the companies selling computers I was interested in. I spent several weeks sorting through dozens of annoying emails, but I also found dozens of wonderful emails offering me great deals on computers.

Then it dawned on me, I didn~t know what type of computer I needed. To determine that, I began to make a list of the needs my computer would have to meet now and in the near future. I disregarded needs that may pop up in the far future as by then I~m sure I will have updated my computer system. As I continued to research I found out that I could actually design my own computer. By designing my own, I only ordered the perks I wanted and also saved some money in the process. Then I saved my design and waited until that particular type of computer was on sale.

Finally, my computers went on sale, and I saved 20%-30% on my computers. My most important secret is that I actually remember to send in the rebates. When your computers arrive, be sure you get all the needed information and send the rebates in on time; they are usually due within thirty days of purchase, and most people lose that money by losing the proper forms or forgetting to put the rebate form in the mail.

So, do some research, don~t speed through the process, and you~re sure to find some great deals on some really fantastic computers. Do it before you begin to grow your company, you will receive better pricing as a small
business.
